Welcome to St. Mary Catholic School, where the faculty and staff strive to create an environment that nourishes Catholic Christian values, instills the love of learning, and creates life-long learners!

For over 145 years students have been entrusted to SMCS for educational excellence—spiritually, academically, and socially.  Located in downtown Hagerstown, St. Mary Catholic School has been transformed over the years from an eight-room school and convent to a three-floor primary wing and a two-floor middle school wing.

Although there have been cosmetic changes to the building over the years, the commitment of SMCS to fulfill the mission of the Catholic Church in teaching love and service to the Lord and one another has remained steadfast.  Students, faculty, and staff begin each day praying the St. Mary Catholic School Prayer, “Give us the courage and strength to stand up for what is right and to treat each other with kindness and gentleness.”  Students participate in community outreach through activities and service projects sponsored by the SMCS Student Council.

The true success of SMCS students lies in the strong parent-teacher partnerships that are created and nurtured at all grade levels.  Parents are recognized as the primary educators of their children and are encouraged to participate in their children’s academic journey.  SMCS teachers are committed to inspiring and challenging their students to become “the best that they can be.”
