St. Mary Catholic School running team students participated in the 5K in Williamsport over Memorial Day weekend. The proceeds of the run went to help fund a WWII Memorial for the town.
The coaches encouraged the kids to participate in this race for a few reasons, most especially to perform a civic duty for the Washington County community and help celebrate Memorial Day with a true purpose. After the race, the coaches asked their running friend, Gil Crumrine, to address the kids about the significance of this weekend. Mr. Crumrine is a Vietnam Era veteran who shared with the kids his military responsibilities, answered questions from our runners (and parents), and told the kids the real meaning of Memorial Day (not just a long weekend). Mr. Crumrine’s children also attend St. Mary Catholic School.
