Challenging the Mind - Living the Faith

Middle School Social Studies with Mrs. Gross

We are in the home stretch for school, everyone! Wow — hard to believe we are almost halfway through our final trimester!  Students are reminded that it’s not summer break yet, however, and that I expect continued effort and hard work in class. It is time to finish strong…NOT slack off!

Missed us at Back to School night? Here is a link to the presentation I shared with students. 🙂 Welcome to Middle School Social Studies!

Hi!  My name is Kristy Gross, and I am very excited to be teaching Middle School Social Studies at St. Mary School!  I am also the advisor for our school’s National Junior Honor Society chapter, and I coordinate our yearly National Geographic Bee. I love the fantastic teachers, students, and families of SMCS, and feel blessed to be here.

This year marks my 16th year as an educator, and I truly love what I do. It’s so rewarding to see kids have their own “lightbulb moments” when they grasp a challenging concept. I also really enjoy working with middle school-aged kids. (Perhaps this is because I have a 13-year-old son and a 15-year old daughter…? Perhaps it’s because I’m a little wacky…!)

Along with our kids, my husband and I have three pets, a cat and two dogs. Our house is chaotic at times, but also lots of fun.

I appreciate the opportunity to teach at SMCS, and hope to meet you all soon. Parents, you are always welcome to stop by and introduce yourself at any time! Thanks for reading more about me!

Current Events Presentations

Middle School students will receive their assignment dates for current events presentations within the first week of school.  Students are expected to make a note of their assigned dates in their planner, and to be responsible for having their current events article or political cartoon ready to present on their assigned date! Points are subtracted for late presentations!  *Please note that I do have a schedule of dates posted in the classroom so that students can check their assigned times.
