HAGERSTOWN, MD – St. Mary Catholic School students brought in monetary donations for a TAG day on October 27, 2017 in support of Doey’s Hospice House of Washington County. Students who participated were allowed to dress out of uniform. Students were asked to wear colors in support of all types of cancer. A total of $223.66 was collected by SMCS students.

Monthly TAG days are held where the students may come out of uniform dressed in the theme of the month for a contribution to a worthy cause. TAG days are organized by our student council members.

HWC has been offering high quality end-of-life care for over 37 years. The organization serves their patients wherever they live through an interdisciplinary approach to each individual and family. However, sometimes the option of staying in their home is not viable when pain and symptoms need to be managed at a more intense level of care for a period of time; a hospice house is the perfect option. At present, those needing or wanting a hospice house setting for this pain and symptom management have only one option – to leave the county. This led HWC to build Doey’s House, a 12-bed inpatient hospice house that will provide general inpatient, respite services and short-term residential care for hospice patients right here in Washington County (http://hospiceofwc.org/doeys-house/).
